At the heart of the manoeuvre are two unexpected camps: allies of the late prime minister Raila Odinga and the Moi family, represented by Kanu chairman Gideon Moi.

Sources indicate Ruto may offer the Moi family a Cabinet position or allow them to nominate trusted allies, while Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna is also being considered.

This move would signal the Moi family’s return to key government circles nearly two decades after Daniel Arap Moi left office.

It could also help Ruto consolidate support in the Rift Valley, a region pivotal to any presidential bid.

By reconciling former rivals, Ruto aims to turn potential dissenters into partners, strengthen his coalition, and project an image of inclusion and political maturity.

The ruling arises from the case of CKN, who divorced her husband, DMO, following marital breakdown. 

Justice Kizito Magare upheld the lower court’s decision that the woman must refund dowry valued at over KSh150,000, including cash, livestock, and gifts paid to her parents during their Kisii customary marriage.

The judge ruled that the refund is required upon dissolution of both customary and Christian marriages, regardless of whether the wife personally received the dowry.

He allowed that if she wished, the wife could seek indemnity from her parents within two years, but this did not absolve her responsibility to ensure the return.

The court also rejected the woman’s request for spousal maintenance, asserting that alimony is incompatible with constitutional equality, which guarantees equal rights for men and women.

Justice Magare described alimony as a “colonial relic” rooted in assumptions of female dependency and noted that post-divorce, neither spouse bears a duty to maintain the other.

He emphasized that marital failure does not diminish parental rights or obligations, reaffirming joint custody under Article 53.

Cultural commentators and Kisii elders hailed the decision for respecting tradition by mandating dowry return.

Justice Magare concluded that parties must leave marriage with only emotional scars, signalling a shift in Kenyan family law that balances constitutional equality with cultural practice.

Matiang’i must prove his political mettle, consolidate opposition forces, and convince Kenyans that the party can deliver on its promises.

His campaign will test his organisational skills, strategic acumen, and ability to unify a fragmented political base.

The coming months are expected to shape the opposition’s strategy and determine whether Jubilee can reclaim its former influence. 

For Matiang’i, turning endorsement into votes will be a decisive measure of his leadership and the party’s relevance in Kenya’s evolving political landscape.

According to the Swahili publication, the Tigania Chief Magistrate, James Macharia, has recused himself from the case of Meru businessman Morris Gitonga, accused of pouring hot water on a 15-year-old girl, citing threats to his life and intense public anger.

Macharia, who was to rule on Gitonga’s bail, said the Tigania court environment was unsafe for the continuation of proceedings.

He received threatening calls and security assessments indicated a risk to both the judiciary and prosecution, prompting the transfer of the case to Meru High Court.

Gitonga, who denied the charges, appeared in court on Tuesday and requested bail, which the investigating officer opposed, citing risks of witness intimidation. 

The court ordered Gitonga to remain in Meru Prison for 14 days, with the next hearing scheduled for 17 November 2025.

The victim, a 15-year-old from Mailu village in West Tigania, suffered severe burns to her abdomen, chest, back, and legs after being tied and scalded on 28 September 2025.

The attack has triggered widespread public outrage, with criticism directed at the delayed police action.
